After claiming the Australian Grand Prix, Carlos Sainz returned to the top step of the podium in the 2024 Formula 1 season with a commanding performance at the Mexico City Grand Prix, held at the famous Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

From Friday’s free practice, Sainz took to the track with a helmet inspired by Mexican culture, including elements such as typical local masks, but also a chilli pepper in reference to the national cuisine, and one of the nicknames that identify the Spanish driver, “Chilli”.

On Saturday, Sainz took pole position in Q3 with a time of 1:15.946, earning him the chance to start from P1 on the grid.

On lap 9 of the race, Sainz pulled off a fantastic overtaking move to move back into first place permanently, leading the pack until the end.

Charles Leclerc’s special helmet design for the 2024 Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix was inspired by the colours of the Monaco national flag, with red and white.

“I’m incredibly happy! I’ve been chasing another win since Australia and getting it here in Mexico makes it even more special, as it almost feels like a second home to me with the incredible support of the Mexican fans! My family is also here this weekend so I can’t ask for more. We knew losing a position at the start could happen but regaining it quickly by diving down the inside into turn 1 was the key to the race. From there it was all about managing tyres and pace, a very smooth operation until the chequered flag”, Sainz commented after the celebrations.
